The love for the Tejano singer Selena shows no signs of slowing — especially in Houston.

We can all get the Selena bags and cups and makeup. (And trust us, we do.) But Houston has its own unique tributes all over the city. Just hop in your car.

Selena murals, depicting everything from album covers to legendary concerts, can be found amid city slogans and rap icons. And they’re just as much a part of our culture. Roland Saldana of Artistik Misfits was commissioned by The Arena vintage clothing store to add Selena to an outside wall. The store’s owner is a Selena fan and was at her 1995 RodeoHouston concert. Saldana also included a rendering of David Adickes’ “I Love Houston” sculpture and splattered paint to represent his background as a street artist.

“They wanted a mural that would bring in people to interact with the space and create a photo op,” Saldana says. “I think Selena will always be relevant. I remember growing up as a kid listening to her music on the radio. It’s that feeling I think that keeps her memory alive through the music.”

Sylvia Blanco painted the Selena cube art in front of the BakerRipley building in the East End and says her first thought was to paint Selena.

“She was the queen of Tejano music,” Blanco says. “She was and still is loved by many.”

Here are seven Selena murals you can see around Houston. Of course, if you do head out on a hunt, just remember social distancing. But some of these don’t even require you to leave your car.
