Brady Smith is a bit of a Renaissance man. The talented actor, who has appeared in a slew of TV shows (“Parks and Recreation,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and Julie Delpy’s “On the Verge,” to name a few), is also an artist, author and dad to four dogs, two parakeets, six chickens and two kids, ages 6 and 11. And he surfs and shark dives.

休斯顿本地人周一虚拟露面,谈论他针对孩子们的新图画小说“路易和熊在任何事物的土地上”,由蓝色柳树书店提出。

Smith already has a few children’s books under his belt, including “Random Acts of Draw-ness,” “I’m Getting a Shark,” and he and wife Tiffani Thiessen wrote “You’re Missing It” together. Smith’s “Louie and Bear Bite Back” is due in September.

He describes his latest project as “Calvin & Hobbs meets Star Wars” for children ages 8 to 12. Wild creatures find themselves sucked into a bizarre land and a scary adventure facing a kid-eating monster called a Cacapoop.

“Our heroes fall down into an intergalactic panel where whatever you want happens,” Smith says. “And whatever you were thinking about before you fell into the intergalactic panel is your identity. Louie was thinking about a Lucha Libre wrestler, and his hamster was infatuated by bears, so he’s a grizzly.”

They have to save the kids in their neighborhood from a bully, naturally.

Smith, 50, says drawing has kept him busy during the pandemic. He’s worked on “Louie and Bear in the Land of Anything Goes” over the last three years.

Creating a graphic novel is like “writing a novel and then you break it down to panels — like a 160-page cartoon strip,” Smith says. “I’m getting in so much drawing, I’m beginning to know what carpal tunnel is like.”

“Random Acts of Draw-ness” was a another pandemic project; it started as an Instagram series(instagram.com@bradysmithhere).The sketchbook has prompts — such as, draw a duck on roller skates eating a slice of pizza — to get kids’ imagination and artistic skills going. “Now kids DM me from all around the world,” Smith says.

Smith grew up in Sharpstown. His love for children’s books is inspired by his mom, JoAnn Smith, an elementary school librarian, he says.

Thiessen, a TV chef and show host, is working on her second cookbook, and the couple expect to do an in-person book signing at Blue Willow later this summer after the success of their 2019 appearance.
