Bayou City Art Festival, Houston Holi top family fun picks

Two kite festivals, Houston Walk for Victory, Paws on Parade, Turkey Leg Hut Festival and Katy Taste Fest are also included in this week's recommended family events.

Bayou City Art Festival

The Bayou City Art Festival, now in its 50th year, will return to Memorial Park this weekend. The annual festival attracts over 300 artists from 19 disciplines and boasts food trucks, live entertainment and art installations.

Hermann Park Conservancy Kite Festival

The annual event returns to Hermann Park for the first time since 2019. Visitors can bring their own kites or buy one from a kite vendor. In addition to face-painting and hula-hooping, there will be performances on Miller Outdoor Theatre’s stage from the Rice University Marching Owl Band, Kinder HSPVA Jazz Ensemble and Mariachi Los Caimanes from the University of Houston-Downtown.

Houston Walk for Victory

Masala Radio 98.7 FM presents the 13th annual Houston Holi. This year’s event will feature explosions of color, a live concert by Jay Sean, Bollywood dancing, DJs spinning tunes, dhol players, street food, carnival rides, a kids zone and giveaways.

Paws on Parade

Houstonians and their dogs are invited for a walk around Discovery Green. The fundraising event features a costume contest, pet vendors and drawings.

A Story, a Song, and a Dance

The cross-cultural performance combines storytelling by Jean Donatto, flamenco by Irma La Paloma and guitarist Jeremy Garcia, Indian music by Abhishek Balakrishnan and percussionist Naga Srinidhi, and Indian classical dance by Rathna Kumar and members of her Anjali Dance Company. A Story, a Song, and a Dance tells the story of how we face profound hardships, ultimately delivering a message of hope inspired by the Buddha’s message “from darkness to light.”

Turkey Leg Hut Festival

Hosted along Almeda between Wichita and Arbor streets in Third Ward, the annual festival and block party returns with performances by Step Rideau & the Zydeco Outlaws and Inayah, along with dozens of local vendors, kids activities, DJs and more.
