Monsoon obliterated the competition with her uncanny impersonations of Natasha Lyonne and Judy Garland. Her Lyonne was eerily accurate, from the voice to the anecdotes. But her Garland was a direct channeling of the singer. Everything about it was perfect.

Your Judy Garland impression for Snatch Game was one for the herstory books. Are you surprised at all the love?

I think there was a moment of, "OK, you got this. You've done this before. There's some queens over there. There's some cameras over there." It was definitely less of a shock to the system than the first time that I did it. I kept singing the song "As If We Never Said Goodbye" from "Sunset Boulevard" to myself on the day of our first episode filming. I felt a little bit how Norma Desmond feels when she thinks she's gonna have her big return. There's something nostalgic about going into that arena again after a long break.

Did anything on this current season throw you for a loop?

I think the most surprising thing is the comfort and ease that I felt with the rest of the cast. And the comfort and ease that we as a cast felt with the crew and the production aspects of it. Some of those girls, this was their third time being on the show. There was a familiarity and a family quality to everything. It just felt like the whole time we were really there to celebrate ourselves and each other in a way that was different from the first time in the competition.

In a normal season, if you do well, you get to kind of sit back, for a second at least, until the next challenge. But with this element, with the plunger and the blocking, doing well means you're most likely next on the block-block. You gotta do well and keep doing well, otherwise you're gonna be subect to a blocking.

One of the biggest lessons I learned the first time was whatever you do, whatever your aesthetic is, whatever drag you wanna present, do it at 100-percent. Nothing was brought to the competition without lots of thought and lots of work put into it ahead of time. All of my looks that I wear on the runway were carefully thought out by me and my designers. When it comes to the challenges, I just had to trust my instincts as a performer and trust that I've been doing this for awhile. Whatever the challenge is, find a way to make it fit within who I am as an entertainer and an artist so that I'm always staying genuine and authentic, even if it's difficult.

我认为最终的结果是更好的比我worried it was going to be. But also, I'm very realistic. No one person can have every talent. Knowing that this was my weakness, I just wanted to get through it and on to the next challenge. Luckily, Trinity (the Tuck) stepped in and talked me off the ledge at some point. But when you look at the queens that are there with the design skills to pay the bills -- Jaida (Essence Hall) and Trinity are such amazing seamstresses, Shea (Coulee) has such an eye for fashion, Raja has such a unique vision, Yvie (Odlly) always finds a way to bring her style and her aesthetic. I didn't know as much about The Vivienne's design skills, but even she was super-skilled at everything. And Monet having had to go through so many designing challenges. Everyone had their own skills and limitations. But I don't think I ever thought, "Oh, I'm gonna win a ball challenge." Kind of being realistic throughout that, it wasn't so much of a tragedy. I was prepared to not be the best in that category. I was just happy to wear something that stayed together and held up as I walked the runway. And, you know, purple looks great with orange hair.
