Selena's final RodeoHouston performance still feels like a bit of magic.
It was the perfect encapsulation of her talent and power. And it was also a telling indicator of what was to come. She opened with the now-classic "Disco Medley," nearly eight minutes of classic dance tunes featuring two songs by Donna Summer, one of Selena's biggest influences. A remixed version, released in 1997, became a club hit.

Selena debuted the iconic purple jumpsuit at that show that was recreated for Jennifer Lopez in the 1997 "Selena" film. The outfit is permanently displayed at the Selena Museum in Corpus Christi.
This was Selena's third consecutive Rodeo performance at the Astrodome and set the all-time attendance record with 66,994 people. It was also the third time in a row Selena broke the record. It's a master class in performance: precise and spontaneous, polished and charming, passionate and free-spirited. Selena was at the peak of her powers.
Several Rodeo performers have since paid tribute to Selena, including Kacey Musgraves, Camila Cabello and Prince Royce last year. Expect something from Becky G this year.
That final concert was released in 2001 onCDandDVD. It was later released on limited-edition, double-disc, purple vinyl. A doll was also created wearing a replica of the purple outfit
It's impossible to know how far Selena's reach would have extended. But we see her influence today in such stars as Cardi B, Demi Lovato, even Solange and Beyonce.
Selena por siempre!
